Buddy Whittington
Blues Guitarist In Concert at the Glen Eyrie Castle
We welcome buddy for his first concert at glen eyrie!
Join us in the Great Hall of the Castle for an evening of Classic Blues Guitar with Buddy Whittington, a true Texas “Guitar Hero” who spent fifteen years as lead guitarist for legendary bluesman John Mayall.
In his 15 years as lead guitar player for “Father of the British Blues”, John Mayall and his band The Bluesbreakers, Buddy Whittington gained a loyal legion of blues fans around the world through his impeccable skills on electric guitar.
Buddy first met Mayall in 1991 when The Bluesbreakers were making a tour stop in Dallas-Fort Worth and Whittington had the chance to open for Mayall. Needless to say, Mayall was impressed with Whittington’s six-string skills, so when Mayall’s former guitarist left in 1993, he made one phone call and found his replacement. Buddy still accompanies Mayall on his tours of the U.S., Canada, and Europe, more than 150 dates a year.
Traveling with Mayall, Buddy played at concerts in South America, Europe, and the United States. Since striking out on his own in 2009, the Texas bluesman has completed several European tours, playing to packed blues clubs and festivals around the continent. Buddy became a regular performer at the Belvedere Blues Festival in Canon City. In 2021, The Buddy Whittington Band performed at the inaugural Blues on the Mesa festival in Colorado Springs.
After disbanding the Bluesbreakers in 2008, Buddy released his debut album in 2009, with two more following soon after. Buddy’s album features his original work in Texas blues, ranging from tributes to famed musicians to a humor piece titled “Second Banana”.
Fans can find Buddy on YouTube by searching for Buddy Whittington and Eric Clapton. Videos there are from a major benefit concert in Liverpool, marking Mayall’s 70th birthday and his notable career contributions to the blues world.
