Handel's Messiah

A Christmas Concert at the Glen Eyrie Castle

Concert Date

About the Concert

Dive into the holiday season with selections from Handel’s Messiah performed in the Glen Eyrie Castle’s historic Great Hall.

Messiah is an English-language oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel. The text was compiled from the King James Bible and the Coverdale Psalter by Charles Jennens. It was first performed in Dublin on April 13, 1742 and had its London debut a year later. Handel wrote Messiah for a fairly small ensemble, and we are staying true to the original intent. All pieces will be performed on period instruments and with a true baroque repertoire.

Hear this famous Christmas Oratorio brought to life by Colorado Springs’ only professional period instrument ensemble, the Parish House Baroque, and sung by the Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble directed by Deborah Teske.

The concert will be approximately 75 minutes long and will feature well-known Christmas selections of the Oratorio.

We are offering an optional Buffet dinner in our Castle Dining Room between the two concerts. See menu details and pricing below.
